Karl Mecklenburg Jersey , Colo. (AP) — When the Denver Broncos signed Case Keenum to a two-year, $36 million deal last spring, they figured they were getting the quarterback who had led the Vikings to within one step of the Super Bowl.Instead, they’ve gotten the journeyman he was with the Texans and Rams.At least so far.Keenum’s eight interceptions are tied for the league lead and are one more than he threw in 15 games last year. He’s been especially turnover-prone in the red zone and he’s the only quarterback in the NFL who has thrown an interception in all six of his team’s games so far.Keenum’s 15 sacks put him on pace for 40, nearly double what he had last season or in 2016 when he served as Jared Goff’s tutor in Los Angeles.Last week, Broncos general manager John Elway gave Keenum a vote of confidence, saying on Orange & Blue 760, “I think that Case has done a nice job. It’s always an adjustment getting used to a new offense and a new coaching staff and what he’s used to. He’s provided leadership, he’s provided that grit.”Then, Elway hit the scouting trail, flying to Eugene, Oregon, with top personnel assistant Matt Russell to check out Ducks QB Justin Herbert, who is expected to be the top quarterback in the 2019 NFL draft if he leaves school after this season.Keenum acknowledged Tuesday that his adjustment has been a rocky one.“It’s tough,” Keenum said. “You look at guys that have been in offenses for two, three, four, 10 years. The guy who played last night (Packers star Aaron Rodgers) has been in that offense a while and you start to know it like the back of your hand. You have just seen so many different plays and so many defenses you know what tends to get open.”On the other hand, this is his “first time throwing with these guys,” said Keenum, quickly adding, “These are definitely not excuses. I’m not sitting here making excuses, but I think we’re getting better. That’s the goal, and it takes time.”The Broncos (2-4) have lost four straight heading into their game Thursday night at Arizona (1-5).They hung tough in two of those losses, both at home, against two of the league’s top teams. They lost 27-23 to the Chiefs (5-1) in a game in which Keenum missed a wide open Demaryius Thomas for the potential game-winning score in the closing seconds, and the Rams beat them 23-20 Sunday thanks to penalties and an interception that cost the Broncos at least 10 points, including one on Emmanuel Sanders for taunting after what he mistakenly thought was a 44-yard touchdown.Last week, offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave bunched his receivers closer to struggling left tackle Garett Bolles at times and used more two-back sets. Still Gary Zimmerman Jersey , he didn’t call many more runs for rookie running backs Phillip Lindsay and Royce Freeman, who have combined for four TD runs and a 5.19-yard average per carry despite the imbalance in play calls. The Broncos rushed just 17 times and threw 41 passes against L.A. During their skid, they’ve run 80 times and thrown 159 passes.“When you’re playing (from) behind, you’re trying to stick to your game plan and keep running the ball here and there,” Keenum said. “But especially with the later it gets, you need to make explosive plays. That gives the defense, especially the defensive line, a chance to tee off. …“It’s tough. But we put ourselves in that position early and we’ve got to make sure we don’t do that again this week.”Bolles, the team’s first-round draft pick in 2017, continues to struggle — he leads the league with six holding calls a year after committing an NFL-high 10. And losing left guard Ronald Leary to a torn Achilles on Sunday means Max Garcia returns to the spot he occupied next to Bolles much of last season.Bolles said Leary’s injury was “a tough one for me. It made me super emotional, but I have to move on. I have to help Max as much as he helps me and we have to get the job done.”Coach Vance Joseph said Sam Jones, a rookie from Arizona State, will be the backup guard against the Cardinals.“I trust the offensive line no matter who’s in there,” Keenum said.Notes: S Su’a Cravens (knee surgery) and WR-KR Jordan Taylor (double hip surgery) both practiced for the first time this season. “It was good to see Jordan back out there and also Su’a, but it’s a jog-through today,” Joseph said. “We’ll go fast tomorrow, as far as the 7-on-7 red zone and the team red zone, so we’ll see how they feel.” Coming out of Colorado a year ago, Phillip Lindsay wasn’t invited to the Combine. But he signed with the Broncos as an undrafted free agent, and became the first undrafted rookie running back ever chosen to the Pro Bowl. Now Lindsay has some advice for other players who aren’t invited to Indianapolis this week.“If you didn’t get an invite to the Combine, don’t sweat it,” Lindsay wrote. “Use it as motivation. Remember you only need one opportunity and that’s your PRO DAY. 20 RBs got drafted, but how many do you hear about?”Lindsay had an excellent college career, setting the Colorado career record for all-purpose yards and yards from scrimmage, yet he was overlooked anyway. His rookie season is evidence that the folks who make the decisions on Combine invitations are far from perfect, when you’re a player who’s not invited to the Combine, your career is far from over.

EDTShareTweetShareShareThe time I almost had an opportunity to interview Antonio Brown Aaron Doster-USA TODAY SportsI’ve been writing for Behind the Steel Curtain for nine years, and it’s really been a blast. I’ve produced literally hundreds of pieces of commentary—most of which I’m extremely proud of. In addition to that, I’m now co-hosting a weekly podcast (I grew up idolizing the likes of Johnny Carson, so that’s kind of a hoot). However, in all the years I’ve been affiliated with BTSC, I’ve never interviewed a player—namely a Steeler player (although, former center—and Super Bowl XLIII hero—Justin Hartwig did email me one time and called me an idiot for pointing out the flaws of the 2008 offensive line). Obviously, being a writer on a site that doesn’t have access to team facilities would greatly diminish the chances of ever speaking to a live player, but, believe it or not, two summers ago, I was approached via email by a marketing guy representing a very famous soup brand (I don’t know how BTSC/SB Nation feels about mentioning brand names, so let’s just say it rhymed with shambles soup). Anyway, he said his company was partnering with Steelers Pro Bowl receiver Antonio Brown in a commercial called “Fill in while they fill up,” a promotional something or another where Brown would surprise the head coach of the Thomas Jefferson high school football team. Brown would then coach T.J.’s players for a bit, while the head coach took a break in the stands and ate some shambles soup. The guy wanted to know if I was interested to sitting down with Brown afterwards and asking him a series of questions related to the shambles soup commercial and his career. I don’t know how this guy found my name. My guess is he Googled “Most brilliant Steelers writers,” and “Anthony Defeo” was the first thing that popped up—either that, or he was just throwing a bunch of soup at the wall, and it finally stuck when I responded. Don’t get me wrong, I was quite apprehensive. I mean, why couldn’t I start out with someone on a much smaller scale, such as Cobi Hamilton (no offense to him)? Here I was, being asked to conduct my first interview, and with someone I thought was pound-for-pound the best player in the National Football League. I realize this might offend your sensibilities if you’re one of those hardcore tough guy fans (“Grrrr, Lambert! Grrrr, Deebo! Grrrr Joe Haden Jersey , receivers are divas!”), but that’s what I truly believed. Even my mom recognized Brown’s football superiority on Thanksgiving Night in 2016, when she woke up from her turkey slumber to see him catch his third touchdown pass of the game in a 28-7 victory over the Colts. The national play-by-play guy screamed something like, “There he is again!” or whatever those guys typically scream (those national guys are always just so dramatic), and my mom said, “Hmm,” which was her way of saying, “I’m in my 60s and a woman, so what do I know about football? But even I recognize that man’s greatness.” I remember talking to family and friends about this invitation, and about how it felt like I was being asked to interview the LeBron James of the NFL. I honestly believed Brown was that superior at the game of football at that point in his career. Don’t get it twisted or anything. It’s not like I thought Brown would go on to be the funniest actor in a movie starring Amy Schumer and Bill Hader, but let’s just say I had a ton of respect for his abilities as an NFL receiver. My friends were so encouraging, I actually psyched myself into doing this. That’s how friends are, right? They’re always saying things like, “You should totally do stand up!” But what do they care? It’s not their shame. They don’t have to worry about some audience member recording their “act” with a smartphone, and then not getting hired by some prospective office employer because they couldn’t comprehend people actually having lives outside of work-type stuff. Once I made up my mind that I would do it, I began writing down some questions I wanted to ask Brown. I dated a journalist a few months earlier, and I was going to ask her for some advice—advice that she may or may not have given me (you know how vindictive those ex-girlfriends can be). Anyway, after a few days of back and forth emails with this promotional guy, I eventually told him I would do this. He said something like, “Great! Now make sure you bring a camera crew to record this, and to get some action shots of Brown interacting with the kids.” Idon’t remember my exact response, but it may have been something like, “Whoa! I’m not a real journalist. Oh, sure, I get paid for my work, but not enough to actually support myself Vance McDonald Jersey , just enough to impress whatever woman I happen to have a crush on at the time. I’m just a regular dude. In fact, two years from now, Facebook will super-impose my face onto the body of another guy sitting on the toilet going number two and use it as a meme to mock my lack of football credibility.” After sending that last email, perhaps, not surprisingly, I didn’t hear from this guy for the longest time. To me, that was quite telling, since he had been pretty quick to respond up to that point. It was kind of like interacting with a woman on Bumble, where the two of you exchange frequent messages (“What else do you like to do that’s fun?”) until she suddenly disappears the moment you try to set up an actual date (shout out to comedian Aziz Ansari for providing the premise for that joke). I guess I couldn’t really blame the man. I mean, here he was, probably thinking he was getting the Bob Ley (or whomever) of Steelers writers, but instead, he stumbled upon some schmoe who would one day have his face super-imposed on thebody of another guy sitting on a toilet going number two in a meme mocking his football credibility. That would be quite the sobering realization for any promotional guy. Chances are, he was scrambling to find someone else to conduct this interview with Brown. At least that’s what I was thinking for the few hours that he didn't get back to me. In fact, the second I read the words, “Bring a camera crew,” I suddenly felt unqualified. But, surprisingly, this guy actually did get back to me (maybe he had no other options), and told me I was more than qualified to do the job. Unfortunately, by that point, I had talked myself out of it. Doubt crept in. To use a football metaphor, I suddenly grew alligator arms and shied away from a pass across the middle.Anyway, as the link above clearly shows, Brown filmed this commercial and seemed to have a good time with the football kiddos at Thomas Jefferson high school. Did I miss out on the opportunity of a lifetime? At the time, I certainly thought so. In fact Tyson Alualu Jersey , I was so ashamed of myself, I never told anyone affiliated with BTSC, for fear of feeling the scorn after losing out on the interview that would have been contained in the article I would have written. But now knowing what I do about Brown—the very low opinion most reporters have of him; his frequent tardiness to everything; his apparent lack of enthusiasm and engagement when actually doing things like interacting with high school kids—I wonder if I dodged a bullet, instead. You know how you hear stories of people who have very poor encounters with celebrities they once idolized? I wonder if that would have been my experience. I wonder if I would have walked away from that day asking myself why Brown made me wait four hours and only answered two questions. I wonder if I would have walked away wondering why Brown wanted to know how my jaw felt. As weird as it sounds, whatever regret I may have felt for not interviewing Antonio Brown quickly vanished within a week or so. They say you should always go with your gut, and my gut was never truly on board with the whole idea.Maybe there was a reason for that. PITTSBURGH — A talented and mobile young quarterback tasked with taking over a playoff team from a veteran.Yeah, Pittsburgh Steelers star Ben Roethlisberger may know a little something about that.Still, the two-time Super Bowl winner’s eyes get a little wide when talking about Kansas City‘s Patrick Mahomes.Asked about his initial impressions of Mahomes — whom Roethlisberger and the Steelers (0-0-1) will get a close look at when Kansas City (1-0) visits Pittsburgh on Sunday — and the 36-year-old sounds impressed and a little wistful at the same time.“An amazing talent,” Roethlisberger said. “He’s got a big arm.”And big expectations too. Throwing for four touchdowns in your first season opener — as Mahomes did while lighting up the Chargers on the road in Week 1 — has a way of doing that. Now all he has to do for an encore is try to help Kansas City win in Pittsburgh for the first time since 1986, nearly a full decade before the 22-year-old was born.No pressure or anything, though Mahomes isn’t exactly concerned about carrying the weight of his team’s largely forgettable history against the Steelers.“It’s a brand new season,” he said. “We’ve got a lot of guys that are hungry and want to get better every single week and this will be a great challenge in the early season to kind of get us going.”Pittsburgh has won seven of the past eight meetings, including a 19-13 victory at Arrowhead Stadium last October that put a pin in Kansas City’s 5-0 start while simultaneously igniting an eight-game winning streak that carried the Steelers to a second straight AFC North title.Pittsburgh entered that game needing a boost after getting throttled at home by Jacksonville. The Steelers could use another one after an ugly 21-all tie in Cleveland last week in which they turned it over six times and blew a 14-point fourth-quarter lead.Playing well against Kansas City has rarely been an issue for the Steelers. Neither have home openers. Pittsburgh is 15-2 in season debuts at Heinz Field since moving from Three Rivers Stadium in 2001 and Roethlisberger — who spent part of the week dealing with an achy right elbow — tends to find another gear when in Pittsburgh’s home black jerseys. He’s averaging nearly three touchdown passes per game at Heinz Field since the start of 2014.Some things to look for as the Chiefs try to end a six-game losing streak in the Steel City while the Steelers try to avoid their worst start since they dropped their first four games in 2013, the last time they missed the playoffs.KING OF THE HILLKansas City wide receiver/punt returner Tyreek Hill piled up 269 total yards in Los Angeles, including a 53-yard catch-and-run touchdown and 91-yard punt return for a score that ended in similar fashion: with Hill flashing the “peace” sign as he traipsed into the end zone.Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt says older brother Derek — a fullback for the Chargers — offered a brief scouting report on Hill, who has 13 touchdowns of 50 yards or more in 32 games.“He said 10 (Hill) is fast,” Watt said. “I said ‘I already knew that.'”So does everyone else. Pittsburgh gave up plenty of big plays last season, allowing 13 passes of more than 40 yards, tied for third-highest in the league. The revamped secondary played well in Cleveland, but that was in the rain against an offense that doesn’t feature a player such as Hill.“He’s a human video game,” Pittsburgh linebacker Bud Dupree said. “We got to make sure he doesn’t make a lot of explosive plays that he always makes.”ENCORE, ENCOREPittsburgh will play without All-Pro running back Le’Veon Bell for a second straight week while Bell continues to wait to sign his franchise tender. The Steelers hardly missed Bell in Cleveland. James Conner rolled up 192 total yards on 36 touches — both Bell-like totals — and scored twice .The goal now will be trying to replicate that kind of effectiveness again. And again. And again. Bell has been particularly effective against Kansas City, averaging 144 yards when facing the Chiefs.EB’s ABSENCEThe Chiefs will likely be without star safety Eric Berry for the second consecutive week. He tore his Achilles tendon last season and had returned for summer workouts, but he’s been out since the early part of training camp with soreness in his heel. “Just being cautious with it. It’s a long season,” Kansas City coach Andy Reid said. “That’s where we’re at.”SECOND WAVEThe Steelers relied heavily on wide receivers Antonio Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster in Cleveland. Help could be on the way Sunday. Tight end Vance McDonald — sidelined all of training camp with a foot injury — is expected to play. McDonald was productive when healthy in 2017 and caught 10 passes for 112 yards in a playoff loss to Jacksonville.
discussion at a time of day when there isn’t much NFL news being published. Feel free to introduce topics that interest you in the comments below.Prior to the Saints game Womens Dwayne Haskins Jersey , I was reading an article and comments on the Canal Street Chronicles website, and I red the following exchange between two Saints fans that intrigued me a bit.First the question was posed:I immediately thought of how much bigger, faster, more athletic modern players are, and the scheme advantages they have, and thought: “Pffft! No contest.Today’s players win hands-down.”But the second comment put a different spin on things:So, what do you think? If we could time-machine the best players of this decade to the past, and have them play in the same conditions as the players from that era — same rules, same training, same pay, same everything — who would win?Would it make any difference if we time-traveled the 60’s era players forward to the modern day and gave them the chance to benefit from modern training techniques and equipment, and time tolearn today’s rules and schemes?Bill-in-Bangkok recommends - Listen to an interesting interview about Lombardi andGeorge Allen: The greatness of Lombardi, Allen through the eyes of Larry BrownWere the players from the past really tougher?Would today’s quarterbacks and receivers survive in 1960’s rules that didn’t provide them with today’s protection?Could offensive linemen thrive in a game where grabbingthe opponents jersey would get them a flag on every play? Are today’s players simply better athletes?Could the plodders of the past keep up with the lightning quick men that play today’s game?Would the sophistication of modern offenses and defenses befuddle the players from the past, or does talent trump all that? The question at the top of the article talks about Lombardi’s Packers and Belichick’s Patriots, but it could be any teams you like, or simply a collection of “all stars” from each era.Put them on an even playing field under the hypothetical posed by BewareofDog in the comment above, and who wins? The news of the day should come straight off of the field Dwayne Haskins Jersey White , but unfortunately for us, it is still just off-field." />Skip to main contentclockmenumore-arrownoyesHogs Haven homepageHorizontal - WhiteHogs Havena Washington Redskins communityFollow Hogs Haven online:Follow Hogs Haven on TwitterFollow Hogs Haven on FacebookLog in or sign upLog InSign UpSite searchSearchSearchHogs Haven main menuFanpostsFanshotsSectionsRedskinsMastheadOddsShopCommunity GuidelinesStubHubMoreAll 321 blogs on Horizontal - WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections Looks Like Someone Has A Sixpack Of The MondaysDaily SlopRedskins RecapsEDTThe news of the day concerning Trent Williams has gone from bad to worse—or at least that is how it feels...every...day...this...goes...on. One outlet (B/R) was reporting that Trent will never play for the Redskins again because of Bruce Allen.I have heard there is still open speculation about whether Trent would even be cleared medically if he were to report to camp right now. Other rumors suggest Trent wants the entire medical staff fired before he steps foot into camp. If you poke your head into a new room, you are bound to hear a new story. I can tell you that I, Ken Meringolo, have not spoken to Trent Williams or his people in over a year, so I have nothing substantive to add—at this point, the only substantive additions should come from #71 himself. I do sincerely hope that we hear from Trent sooner rather than later, because he could mobilize the entire fanbase around his anti-Bruce Allen cause. More on this below.Ironically, Bruce Allen’s untrustworthy presence is my number ONE reason for refusing to lace them up for Dan Snyder and the Redskins. (My refusal to relocate as well as my refusal to place my prized fantasy dynasty team into a blind trust are the reasons I am not playing elsewhere in the league.) If you were a Dan Snyder apologist, you might say that Trent Williams is asking for the Redskins steward to do things that the Redskins steward has no intention of doing because Trent has no intention of playing ball this year. I am not a Dan Snyder apologist and I DO think the Bruce Allen distrust is real. Remember, it was just last year (April 2018) when Bruce Allen was named the LEAST trustworthy decision-maker in the league in a USA Today poll of sports agents (James Dorsett would likely take issue with the small sample size, but still...this is a terrible award to win). This is a key prong to my multi-pronged belief that Bruce Allen must go...but you can only say prong so many times in one sentence before the word ‘prong’ loses all meaning. When the pound-for-pound BEST player on your team doesn’t trust the man in charge, we can motor past the sample size issue (keeping in mind, James, that it isn’t the size of the sample, but rather how you use it). Can someone please tell me how many games the Redskins can win without Trent Williams at left tackle but WITH Bruce Allen in the owner’s box? Quick follow-up: how many wins if Trent Williams is active on Sunday but Bruce Allen is taking tickets for hay rides at the local pumpkin patch? One is more than the other, right? That seems like maybe a loaded question. Let’s go at it this way: assuming for a second that the players around the league know how good Trent Williams is Dwayne Haskins Washington Redskins Jersey , and like/respect him (they vote him into the Pro Bowl every year); how is Bruce Allen going to convince ANY of them to come here and play for him when Trent Williams has made it clear he won’t? Sure, some guys might ignore Trent’s opinion for the big payday, but this isn’t a situation that just goes away and gets better all by itself. For those of us who want to focus on the field right now, trust me when I tell you that a field without a left tackle is a sad place on which to focus. If the Redskins were making a mockery of their competition every Sunday in the fall and winter, Dan Snyder could sit back say, “How can I fire Bruce Allen? All we do is win!” Similarly, if our medical staff oversaw one of the healthiest teams in the league each year, Dan Snyder could say, “My player’s health clearly comes first, and our track record dictates that I stand up for my crack medical staff.” This is, uhhhhhhhh...not the world we live in. Bruce Allen has reportedly been routinely dishonest in his dealings with players and their agents. The Washington medical staff has overseen one of the least healthy rosters in the league the last two seasons (over 20 players on IR EACH of the past two years). Players are docked pay for wardrobe violations. Players are cut the SECOND they decline in ability. Bruce Allen keeps getting promoted and I don’t trust the medical staff to correctly dispense cough drops. Which leads me to ask...For God’s sake, is Dan Snyder really choosing Bruce Allen and his medical staff over Trent Williams? How in the world is THIS team making THIS stand? I understand that people trot out the “inmates running the asylum” analogy in times like these, but that would be a misinterpretation of the analogy here. Trent Williams is the damn warden! He’s the guy “in charge” and his teammates would back that up. What have the Redskins done in the way of accumulating confidence in the front office and medical tent in recent seasons? What can Dan Snyder honestly point to if and when he decides that he would rather put, gulp, Ereck Flowers at left tackle so he can keep Bruce Allen? Trent Williams could someday garner Hall of Fame discussion. Trent Williams is the best chance the Redskins have to keep their first-round quarterback Dwayne Haskins from being murdered mid-game by a blind-side pass rush. If Dan Snyder was having any difficulty severing ties with Bruce Allen, this is the perfect excuse to do it. This is why we need to hear from Trent. We have to stop hearing “reports from people close to Trent” and rumors ginned up by just about anyone and everyone around this situation. If Trent is really asking the Redskins to make this choice, he should say it publicly Cheap Dwayne Haskins Jersey , into a microphone and in front of a camera. To be honest, it would be in his interest to do so—the majority of fans would flock to his banner (we’re already on his side of course). I know I would relish the opportunity to line up next to Trent on this one. (Ricca, since I would be covering Trent’s left flank, you would technically have to say he was moving in to more of a guard position in the Meringolo/Williams tactical formation, no?) I know we are itching to talk football here, but think about it: this is the closest we the fans have gotten in our battle to shake up our incredibly feckless front office. If Trent is really pushing this, he is fighting our fight. He is doing it from a position of strength that we as fans don’t have (because, you know, Dan Snyder has almost never shown any true interest in us as human beings). By the time this gets published, I expect everything we have been told will be changed of course, but as I type this, I am imagining an army of people wearing #71 jerseys taking this team back. I am imagining opening day with the one and only #71 in burgundy and gold. Sure, I am also imagining some poor kid getting ripped off at the pumpkin patch, but in time, Trent Williams will fight that fight too!
with Khalil Mack but Raiders not ‘anywhere close’ to what Bears offered A day after the Raiders made the decision to ship off the best defensive player they’ve drafted in two decades Marcus Gilchrist Jersey , Jon Gruden was set to take to the podium to explain why. There were a few reasons given for trading Khalil Mack. Mostly it had to do with what the Raiders were willing to pay Mack wasn’t enough. But the Bears also made it interesting with their offer in trade.“The negotiation was what it was. It was tough. It was a long process,” said Gruden. “We talked about it daily, we made an offer, I don’t think we were anywhere close to where the Bears were and the Bears made us an offer of what we thought was really unique. Very, very tough to say goodbye to a great player, but here we are today.”The Bears gave Mack a 6-year extension that pays him an averaged of $23.5 million per season. Early reports this offseason had Mack’s people asking for $22 million, but clearly that changed when Aaron Donald got his $22.5 million deal. The main parts of the deal were two first round picks to Oakland for Mack and a second round pick. Why there was a second round pick in there along with Mack is anyone’s guess. But despite having just said “We talked about it daily, we made an offer” and coming in on a 10-year $100 million contract to have his hands on everything to do with this squad swears he said had nothing to do with the negotiations or the details of the trade.“I’m not gonna get into the negotiation,” said Gruden. “Reggie and Tom Delaney and the people that were negotiating were involved in that. I know there’s maybe some feelings that I was involved on a day-to-day negotiation, I had nothing to do with it. We were at a standoff. Something had to happen and here we are.”There were options instead of making this trade right now. They could have waited to see if Mack reported and force him to play out his contract or at least wait a while to get that deal. From there, there was the franchise tag which they had at their disposal to be used twice. That would ensure Mack were still with the team for the next three years at least. But Gruden says he didn’t see that scenario playing out well.“We have waited. We waited and waited and the Rams game was looming,” said Gruden. “Our feeling was he was not going to report anytime soon and like I said Tahir Whitehead Jersey , I saw the Redskins go through it with Kirk Cousins, this long process. You can wait it out, you can franchise him, you can force him to play, but we made a decision and we’re going to stand by it.”Gruden also said his thought process was that had he waited until next offseason to make this deal, the Raiders wouldn’t have gotten two first round picks. Which, technically, they didn’t even get that free and clear considering they had to include a second round pick as well.As for why the Raiders didn’t give Mack an extension, he deferred to the salary cap and unforeseen future spending and “a salary of that magnitude”, adding that it’s hard to pay Derek Carr his contract as well as what Khalil Mack wanted. “I don’t know how many teams have done that,” Gruden said of paying top dollar money for two players. “Aaron Donald got signed, they don’t have a quarterback that has been redone yet. The Bears made this trade Foster Moreau Oakland Raiders Jersey , Trubisky’s still on his rookie deal. It’s tough when you have two players that are the highest paid or close to the highest paid at their positions. So, the economic part of it certainly weighs in. We’ve got free agents on our team that are gonna be [up] next year. We gotta find a way to bring them back. So you got to field a 53-man roster and there are some implications of having two players making that much money. That’s not mystery to anybody.”For what it’s worth, the 49ers were also said to be interested in trading for Mack and they just paid Jimmy Garroppolo big money this offseason. What that big money would be is another story. Carr’s only actual $25 million season is this year. He’s also not the highest paid QB in the league, he’s the 6th highest paid, and his cap amount next year — when Mack’s extension would kick in — drops to $22.5 million and continues to drop in subsequent years. The Bears didn’t add anything to Mack’s $13.8 million cap hit this year in how they structured his deal, but had the Raiders done that (They had over $8 million to play with) they could lower his cap number in future seasons as well putting the combined number between Mack and Carr around $40 million per season, which isn’t unreasonable. But, that’s neither here nor there now. The Raiders were unwilling to pay whatever it would have costed to keep Mack and preferred future draft picks instead. Now the Raiders must go into this season without their best defensive player and nothing to show for it until next year. And even then, we won’t see the fruits of that trade for a couple years. Despite promises they would do their damndest to win in Oakland before they split for Vegas in 2020.“It’s tough,” Gruden said of fielding the best possible team right away. “It wasn’t my goal to trade Khalil when we got here. One of the reasons I’m here is because of him.”That was one of the reasons Raiders fans wanted Gruden here as well. To hopefully take a cornerstone piece like Mack and bring this team to the next level. Now that celebrated 2014 draft upon which this team is built has lost a major piece of its foundation. And it could take a while to rebuild it.Follow @LeviDamien In their second meeting with the Chargers, the Raiders will play at home. Dwayne Haskins!John Elway is one of those names that transcends football, if you are a new or an old NFL fan you have heard the name, seen the helicopter dive in Super Bowl XXXII, and ignored the fact that he finished his career with a 79.9 QB Rating. There are several players in the NFL and entering the NFL who held Elway as a childhood hero including Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Roethlisberger has worn the number seven his entire NFL career.Last season fans saw that quarterback Case Keenum has also been a lifelong Elway fan, when they saw a younger, chubbier, Keenum sports an Elway jersey in what looked like a 3rd grade basketball game.Yesterday the Denver Broncos met with Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins, Haskins is one of five quarterbacks the Broncos have used one of their Top 30 visits on. Haskins straight-up wore a blue Elway home game jersey to his interview. Haskins also idolized Elway growing up and wore the number seven at Ohio State to honor his idol.Join us live Monday, Wednesday and Thursday around 3:00 PM (Mountain), because study long, study wrong! When the Denver Broncos reported for training camp on Wednesday, and before Mase joined Adam Malnati and me on the MHR Radio Podcast (ApplePodcasts, Spotify, and Stitcher), he saw Miller walking through the facility. “Boy, he is excited,” Mase said. “I wasn’t feeling too pumped, and then I talked to Von, and that got me amped up a little bit. So he’s ready.” Keep in mind, that was before Miller set foot on the field for training camp practice. On the second day of camp, Miller was doing Miller things. On one team session he had what would have been back-to-back sacks and completely wrecked that series for the offense. As I said on Twitter, that just adds to the intrigue of what he and Bradley Chubb can do in Vic Fangio’s defense. Speaking of which, back to Mase for a prediction on the Orange Rush that will get Broncos Country even more excited. And if you haven’t gotten it yet, it’s another reason to get both this awesome Orange Rush shirt and Orange Rush hoodie from our partners at BreakingT. It was a total coincidence that Adam and I were both wearing our Orange Rush shirts for this podcast. Now you can see why Mase thinks Miller is excited.MHR Radio is now on ApplePodcasts Todd Davis Jersey , Google Play, iHeartRadio, Spotify, Stitcher,TuneIn and anywhere else you get your podcasts. James Washington Jersey , the Steelers had been anything but beacon of football excellence. That began to change on this day in 1969, when the Steelers hired Chuck Noll to coach the team.Gene Collier of the 聽takes a look back at the decision that has led to three coaches in the 50 years since Noll arrived. (As noted by Collier, the Browns have had three coaches in less than three months.)According to Collier, Noll had interest from the then-Boston Patriots and the Buffalo Bills, but he chose the Steelers because he connected with Dan Rooney, who along with Art Rooney and Art Rooney, Jr. had met with Noll at the Roosevelt Hotel in Pittsburgh for what would be, in hindsight, one of the most important sessions in Pittsburgh sports history.“His basic idea Stephon Tuitt Jersey , the basic thought, was that my father really wanted to find somebody who could be a leader,鈥?said current Steelers owner Art Rooney II, who at the time was the 16-year-old son of Dan Rooney. 鈥淗e wanted somebody who could keep the attention of players — just being able to keep the attention of a group of 20-somethings over the course of a season was a key thing. The bottom line is that we鈥檝e been fortunate. We鈥檝e had three great people who were great football coaches and happened to be available.”Intentional or not, that “keeping the attention of 20-somethings” ability is something that the current coach may need to work on a bit. If he does, the Steelers may be able to stretch their three-coaches-in-50-years run to three in 60, 65, or longer. A look at some key fantasy football questions for Week 14:WHICH UNDER-THE-RADAR PLAYERS HAVE THE BEST CHANCES FOR BIG GAMES THIS WEEK?Week 14 typically marks the start of the fantasy football playoffs. If at all possible don’t take too many chances when constructing your lineup this week. Digging for players isn’t a great spot to be in this late in the season.Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield had a tough time against a good Texans defense last week, however he faces a Panthers defense that’s allowed the third most passing TDs and sixth most fantasy points per game (FPPG) to quarterbacks. With 35 carries Jesse James Jersey , 4.26 yards per carry (YPC) and two TDs in his last two games, LeGarrette Blount has filled in admirably for Lions RB Kerryon Johnson, who looks to be out again this week. He takes on the Cardinals, who give up an average of 141 rushing yards per game (YPG).Bills WR Zay Jones caught eight passes for 93 yards and scored a TD the first time he faced the Jets in Week 10. The Jets have allowed the fourth highest FPPG to wideouts. There’s not much out there as far as fantasy TEs are concerned, however Steelers TE Vance McDonald has a favorable matchup against the Raiders, who’ve allowed the most TDs to the position.IS LAMAR JACKSON A GOOD START IN A FAVORABLE MATCHUP AGAINST THE CHIEFS?Jackson has won all three of his games as the Ravens starting QB and has been a serviceable fantasy producer. A good portion of Jackson’s fantasy points have come as the result of his 88 rushing yards per game. The Chiefs give up the fifth most FPPG to the QB position, however they’ve given up the fewest rushing yards to fantasy QBs on the season (95). If you have a better option, consider using it.WHAT CAN BE EXPECTED FROM STEELERS BACKUP RB JAYLEN SAMUELS WITH JAMES CONNER OUT?Steelers RBs have an excellent matchup against the Raiders, who give up the second-most rushing YPG (153). While Jaylen Samuels is expected to start Ryan Shazier Jersey , he was a TE in college and has never had more than 12 carries in a game. Will he have the stamina to carry the ball 20 times and how many carries will Stevan Ridley vulture away? It’s possible Samuels and Ridley could split carries. Coth could have fantasy value this week based on the matchup, but there might be a low ceiling on production.SPENCER WARE CARRIED THE BALL 14 TIMES IN WEEK 13. WILL WE SEE AN UPTICK IN HIS ACTIVITY?Ware’s 14 carries came as a result of a 69 percent snap rate. Ware has been hurt and didn’t have that many carries since Dec. 25, 2016. It may take at least another game or two before he is able to handle a full workload. Chiefs coach Andy Reid has suggested he might use a committee approach including Damien Williams (27 percent Week 13 snap rate) and Darrel Williams (4 percent snap rate). Ware should continue to get the majority of work out of the Chiefs backfield but Damien Williams will have a role this week as well. Sharing carries and facing a tough Ravens run defense (third fewest FPPG to RBs), could make Ware another RB with a low fantasy ceiling. Williams doesn’t have enough upside to have stand-alone fantasy value but as Ware’s primary backup he deserves to be rostered as his handcuff.WHICH RUNNING BACK IS THE SAFER START THIS WEEK, JUSTIN JACKSON OR JEFFREY WILSON?Jackson made the most of his limited snaps and carries (22 percent, eight) in Week 13. With Chargers RB Austin Ekeler’s 2.52 YPC in the two games he’s replaced Melvin Gordon, Jackson could see more playing time against the Bengals, who give up the most FPPG to RBs.Although he had a productive final two seasons at North Texas (30 TDs and a 6.02 YPC), Wilson came out of nowhere in Week 13 and had a big game as oft-injured 49ers RB Matt Breida was forced to the sidelines yet again. He rushed for 61 yards on 15 carries (4.07 YPC) and also added eight catches for 73 yards. Both have the opportunity to produce in Week 14 but Wilson is likely to have more guaranteed volume. Jackson has more upside potential this week Mel Blount Jersey , but in terms of playing time, Wilson is the safer start.WHO CAN REPLACE INJURED EMMANUEL SANDERS IN FANTASY LINEUPS?Courtland Sutton had four catches for 85 yards and added a TD in Week 13 for the Broncos. With Marquise Goodwin missing the past two games and Pierre Garcon missing the past three, Dante Pettis has had 13 catches and three TDs in the past three weeks for the 49ers.Panthers WR Curtis Samuel has three TDs in his last five games. Devin Funchess was limited in Week 13 due to a back injury. If he continues to be limited, Samuel will again be heavily utilized in Week 14.There’s not much to love in the Cardinals passing game, but with rookie WR Christian Kirk placed on injured reserve, Larry Fitzgerald’s targets should see an uptick.
Allen‘s two seasons in town. It is more losses than Allen experienced in four college seasons at Alabama Cheap Terry McLaurin Jersey , which went 51-6 from 2013-16.“I’m tired of losing is all it comes down to,” Allen said, via Alex Andrejev of the. “I hate losing. I hate losing more than I like winning, so I’m just trying to help this team win. . . .I’m just trying to do everything I can to help this organization win.” Washington has averaged 7-9 finishes each of the 20 seasons Daniel Snyder has owned the team, going 139-180-1. It has five playoff appearances in the last 20 seasons, never advancing farther than the divisional round in Snyder’s tenure. The last time Washington even advanced to the NFC Championship Game was 1991, which was the team’s last Super Bowl title.Allen, a fan of the team before he become a player on the team Terry McLaurin Jersey 2019 , said Washington has only one goal for this season and every season.“We’re just trying to win,” Allen said. “If it’s not about that, there’s really no point. We’re not talking about it.” Recently, a lot of players have been voicing their displeasure with the team in public. Jay and his staff (as any coaching staff should), have some issues with players NOT keeping their issues in-house. What is said behind closed doors is all fine and dandy - as long as it stays behind those closed doors, and is being dealt with man-to-man.D.J. Swearinger is the latest Redskins to publically criticize the team and/or its coaches. A few weeks ago, Mason Foster called out fans on an Instagram post that was meant to stay private; but got leaked. How about the comments from Zach Brown that “the writing is on the wall”. Brown seems to know his fate is already sealed with the Redskins, and wasn’t afraid of making that public. Add this to the comments Josh Norman made about fans not showing up to support the team at home Ryan Kerrigan Jersey , and you quite possibly have some issues. Add all this up, and you get...dysfunction!Are Redskins players trying to tell us something? Maybe, just maybe, this is worse (if humanly possible) behind closed doors? Is this the players way of saying changes need to happen - either at the personnel level, the coaching level, or all the way at the top?Is this a polite way of making a case for Gruden and company to be removed?

It allows current players to wear the number of some iconic and often Hall of Fame players. There was one of the most iconic numbers available when the Raiders made Johnathan Abram their pick at 27 and he made sure he was the next to wear it.He chose number 24 for Charles Woodson. The future Hall of Famer had a message for the new Raiders safety.“I mean for me for that number, that number carries a lot of weight, you know?” said Abram. “Seeing the message that Charles Woodson put out about the shoes and the role I have to fill for the greats that played before me, you know like [George] Atkinson and Jack Tatum and himself. He didn’t want to include himself, but he’s a Hall of Famer. He’s going to go down as one of the greatest Raiders to ever play. For Coach Gruden to give me that number, it’s some big shoes I have to fill. It’s a lot I have to do. It’s a lot of work that has to be put in – countless hours.”Abram mentioned other great Raiders safeties, but left off the other great number 24 Willie Brown from his mentions. But he understands there’s a long list of great corners that came before him.“For me it’s a rich history and tradition of all the type of DB’s that played here. You can hear the full interview below. One of the top priorities of Jon Gruden and Mike Mayock was to not only bring in talented players through the draft but also guys with high character, who can lead, and love the game of football.Maxx Crosby checks all of those boxes as well as filling a major position of need.As I was wrapping up our interview I asked coach Needham if he had any good stories worth telling about Maxx Crosby that would give Raiders fans an idea the type of player they are getting in their new fourth round pick.“Oh, how much time do you have?” Needham responded “We had two games in November, which was crunch time for us Foster Moreau Jersey 2019 , trying to get bowl eligible. And both games we were playing well on defense and it was a tight game, we were in a defensive battle, we were playing good defense and so was the other team. And in both games, Central Michigan and Akron, Maxx made game changing plays that were not in the scouting report. “Central decides to go for it on a fourth and one and lines up in a goofy formation, unbalanced and about eight guys on one side of the ball. ENGLEWOOD Womens Von Miller Jersey , Colo. (AP) —Keenum, the Denver Broncos‘ offense would be in the hands of Kevin Hogan, who rose up the depth chart when Chad Kelly slipped up.A third-year pro, Hogan has one NFL start on a resume that includes more wins (36) and total yardage (10,634) in college than any of the all-time great quarterbacks who played for Stanford, including his boss, John Elway.“Kevin has played in games. He’s a smart guy,” coach Vance Joseph said. “He’s picked it up quick and we have full confidence in Kevin.”The Broncos were awarded Hogan off waivers from Washington last month after Kelly beat out first-round pick Paxton Lynch for the No. 2 job in Denver.Kelly was dismissed from the team Wednesday , a day after his arrest on suspicion on criminal trespass in the hours after a team-building Halloween party in suburban Englewood. In Hogan, Keenum sees much of himself.“I have a lot of trust in Kevin. I think https://www.broncoslockerroom.com/authentic-von-miller-jersey , similar paths. Been on a few teams and he’s done a great job stepping in and getting a lot of mental reps every day,” Keenum said. “Getting better every day. He’s done a great job, great team guy, great locker room guy to be around. I have complete trust in him if he needs to step in.”On Thursday, the Broncos added former Colorado State quarterback Garrett Grayson to their practice squad after promoting receiver/returner Isaiah McKenzie to their active roster. Grayson is a third-year pro who spent two seasons on the Saints’ active roster and practice squad (2015-16) and last year on the Falcons’ practice squad.“Isaiah’s been working very hard. He’s got a skillset that you can’t teach and that’s speed,” Joseph said Thursday. “So, when you can add a guy with that kind of speed, it’s always a good thing.”Joseph said Grayson was “a guy that we’ve been tracking here for a couple of years. He fits the skillset that our quarterbacks have. He can move, he’s got a very good arm, he’s a smart guy. He’s been on an active roster in New Orleans for two years https://www.broncoslockerroom.com/authentic-phillip-lindsay-jersey , so he’s got some experience.“So, having that spot available, pushing Isaiah up to the roster and bringing up a guy of that caliber, that will help us in the future.”The Broncos (3-4) travel to Kansas City (6-1) this weekend to face the team that drafted Hogan in the fifth round in 2016.“These things have a funny way of coming full-circle,” said Hogan, who will be active Sunday for the first time with the Broncos. “It’s going to be fun to go out there and suit up. I’m not worried about that right now. My job is to get myself prepared, but also to get Case as prepared as possible.”Hogan still has a big fan in Chiefs coach Andy Reid.“I love him,” Reid said. “He’s got sniper vision. He’s got great eyes and he sees everything. I’m pulling for him. I’m one of his fans. I like the way he goes about his business. He’s a brilliant kid.”Elway’s record on QB acquisitions is spotty aside from luring Peyton Manning to Denver for the second chapter of his brilliant career.Ever since Manning’s retirement in 2016, the Broncos have had their troubles at quarterback, whether with free agent Mark Sanchez or draft picks Brock Osweiler Phillip Lindsay Jersey White , Trevor Siemian, Lynch or Kelly.Even Keenum’s acquisition is looking more like a short-term situation. He signed a two-year, $36 million deal in March after leading the Vikings to the NFC championship game, but he’s off to a middling start in Denver with eight TDs and nine interceptions and is the only quarterback in the league with interceptions in all seven of his team’s games. He missed a wide-open Demaryius Thomas for the go-ahead touchdown in the final minute of Denver’s 27-23 loss at home to the Chiefs on Oct. 1, and was booed in a 23-20 loss to the Rams in Denver two weeks later.Hogan has been a game-day inactive all season but now will be one snap away from playing.“I feel very prepared. This is going on Week 7 or 8 in the system and I spend a lot of time working and studying,” Hogan said. “I always took the game plan seriously and prepared as if I was playing. I’m not going to treat it any differently, just going to put the uniform on.” The Broncos interviewed T.C. McCartney for their quarterbacks coach vacancy on Tuesday and they won’t need to continue searching for someone to fill that spot.Mike Klis of KUSA reports that McCartney has been hired. He worked with offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello on the 49ers staff for the last two years as an offensive assistant.McCartney is is the grandson of former University of Colorado head coach Bill McCartney and the son of the late Sal Aunese, who was the starting quarterback at Colorado before being diagnosed with terminal cancer in 1989. Aunese died in September 1989 and the Buffaloes dedicated their national championship season to his memory.Klis reports that the Broncos also hired Rob Calabrese as an offensive assistant. Calabrese worked with Scangarello at Wagner College and replaced him as the school’s offensive coordinator in 2017.
